Twin adjustable beds are a good option for independent sleepers who want more control over their comfort at night. This size is the most compact option available among adjustable bases, so if you’re looking to maximize space in your bedroom, consider an adjustable twin bed over a full or queen size. To see other options for adjustable beds, see our review of the best adjustable bed frames on the market today.

While a standard twin-size adjustable bed typically measures 38 inches wide by 75 inches long, most adjustable bases only offer a twin XL size, which is about five inches longer than a standard 75-inch twin, depending on the brand. An 80-inch long twin XL adjustable base can accommodate sleepers who are up to 6 feet, 6 inches tall.

As you’re shopping for a twin adjustable base, consider our list below. We chose five of the best adjustable bed brands on the market to help you decide which bed is best for you.

If you’re looking to switch up your sleeping accommodation because of pain and discomfort at night, be sure to consult a health care professional before you buy. They may be able to point you in the right direction or determine the root cause of your symptoms.

Best Overall Twin Adjustable Bed

Saatva Adjustable Base Plus

Why we chose it

The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus won our “Best Overall” pick in our Best Adjustable Beds roundup because it offers a long 25-year warranty and many advanced features for a competitive price. Those features include the following:

  • Zero-gravity preset: Elevate both the head and legs into a comfortable, weightless position.
  • Snore reduction preset: Lift your head slightly to open the airways and reduce snoring.
  • Memory preset: Save your own custom setting on your wireless remote.
  • Massage: Target your head, legs, or full body with wave-like massage and three different intensities.
  • Under-bed lighting and remote control flashlight: See where you’re stepping at night by illuminating the ground around your base or using your wireless controller as a flashlight.
  • Wall-hugging design: Remain in one location as the bed adjusts, so you’re never moving too far from your nightstand.
Pros and cons
Pros Two twin-size options Free in-home setup and old mattress removal Strong customer reviews Under-bed lighting Adjustable leg height Wall-hugging feature Cons No exchanges or returns No USB ports No trial period
Features
  • Price: $1,249 for twin; $1,299 for twin XL
  • Payment options: American Express, Discover, Mastercard, Visa, PayPalGooglePay, and Affirm
  • Trial period: None
  • Warranty: 25 years
  • Dimensions: 38 inches wide, 75 inches long (twin); 38 inches wide, 80 inches long (twin extra long, known as XL)
  • Weight capacity: 850 pounds
Compatible mattresses

If you plan to use a mattress of a different brand, check with the manufacturer to ensure it’s compatible with an adjustable base. Most modern foam and hybrid mattresses can work with an adjustable frame. Innerspring mattresses are typically not recommended for adjustable frames because they cannot withstand the flexing and bending of an adjustable base. Saatva has six mattresses compatible with its adjustable bases:

Additional information

The only convenience Saatva doesn’t offer is a USB port to charge your phone through the adjustable base rather than plugging it into a wall socket.

The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus is available in both twin and twin XL sizes. The twin XL can accommodate sleepers up to 6 feet, 6 inches tall, while the twin can accommodate sleepers up to 6 feet, 2 inches tall. It’s important to choose the right size because Saatva doesn’t offer a trial period, free returns, or exchanges. If you live close to a Saatva viewing location, you can test out different base sizes to make sure you choose the right one.

A member of our Reviews Team went to a viewing location in New York City to test the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus.

Every purchase of an adjustable base comes with free delivery and setup, also known as white glove delivery. A Saatva delivery partner will call you to schedule a time to assemble your adjustable base and mattress, as applicable. They’ll also remove your old bed frame and mattress for free. It’s rare to find brands that offer this entire service for free.

Customer service

You can reach Saatva customer service by:

If you’d like to talk to a live agent on the chat feature, select “Chat with a Live Sleep Guide” and you’ll enter the queue. It took our Reviews Team less than a minute to connect to an agent each time we requested one.

Customer reviews

Saatva has an impressive reputation across customer review sites. It is BBB-accredited and has an A+ rating, with 4.74 out of 5 stars and more than 1,600 reviews at the time this article was written. On Trustpilot, it had 4.6 out of 5 stars with more than 1,000 reviews.

Many reviews across both sites praise Saatva for its customer service and positive purchasing experience. The few negative reviews report a weird smell from its products and a difficult exchange process, although Saatva does clearly state on its website that all sales are final.

Best Overall

Best Value Twin Adjustable Bed

Puffy Serenity Adjustable Base

Best Value
Why we chose it

The Puffy Serenity Adjustable Base, available in twin XL, is our pick for “Best Value” because of its relatively low price compared to other bases on the market, without sacrificing a trial period and warranty. And if you’re a health care professional, teacher, student, military member, or veteran, you get up to $825 off any mattress and $600 in accessories, like bed sheets and pillows.

Pros and cons
Pros Relatively more affordable than other brands Lifetime warranty Adjustable leg height Cons No in-home setup or old mattress removal Lacks unique features
Features
  • Price: $1,199
  • Payment options: Discover, Mastercard, American Express, Visa, PayPal, Klarna
  • Trial period: 101 days
  • Warranty: Lifetime
  • Dimensions: 38 inches wide, 80 inches long
  • Weight capacity: 800 pounds
Compatible mattresses

Puffy offers three twin XL mattresses that are compatible with its adjustable beds:

Note that most manufacturers do not recommend using innerspring mattresses on adjustable bases, but the Puffy FAQ page states that this type of mattress is OK to use. If your current mattress is innerspring, contact the manufacturer and make sure that it’s compatible with an adjustable base.

Additional information

Puffy offers its customers an impressive 101-night trial period for its base and all mattresses, and if it doesn’t work out, you can return your purchase for a full refund. Note that you must keep your base for at least 14 nights before initiating a return, but Puffy recommends a full month of sleeping on the base to see if it’s right for you. If you decide your Puffy base or mattress isn’t for you, the brand will send someone to pick it up for free. Puffy and Casper are the only brands on our list that offer a trial period.

This brand also offers lifetime warranty coverage on its adjustable base and mattresses, which is the longest protection length of any brand in this review. If you notice a defect or faulty manufacturing, Puffy will repair or replace your base for free, although you are responsible for associated shipping costs and labor. Puffy only pays for parts. To qualify for coverage, you must be the original owner of the base. It also must have been purchased from an authorized dealer or the Puffy website, so you’re not covered if you purchase from Amazon or eBay.

Because the Puffy Serenity Adjustable Base is priced lower than other brands in this review, you sacrifice advanced features. You get the basics: head and foot adjustability, head and foot massage with three intensities, and a zero-gravity position preset. You can control all features using the base’s wireless remote control.

You also sacrifice in-home setup and old mattress removal. Puffy does not offer this service, so make sure you arrange this yourself if necessary. Try searching online for a local recycling program or donation center that may pick up your base or mattress for free.

Customer service

You can reach Puffy customer service via:

  • Phone (800-430-8380) available Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., or Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT

  • Online chat on the website Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., or Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT
  • Contact form on the website

Puffy customer service is easy to contact. Connecting with an agent over the phone took less than one minute, and live agents are available during business hours over online chat.

Customer reviews

Puffy isn’t accredited on BBB. At the time we wrote this article, it had a D- rating with 2.52 out of 5 stars from an average of 61 customer reviews. Recent reviews cite positive experiences purchasing Puffy products, but most reviews are one-star, with reports that items didn’t arrive for several weeks.

On Trustpilot, Puffy scores 3.9 out of 5 stars with 90 reviews. Customers left many five-star reviews, telling stories of pain relief from using the mattress and praising customer service. Most negative reviews came from customers who didn’t find Puffy mattresses comfortable, but the company is active in addressing these comments.

Best Twin Adjustable Bed for Older Adults

Casper Adjustable Base Max

Best for Older Adults
Why we chose it

The Casper Adjustable Base Max comes in a twin XL size and is our favorite basic adjustable bed for older adults because of its wall-aligning feature that keeps the bed close to your nightstand as it adjusts. Unlike other beds that shift you away from the wall as the base adjusts, this bed ensures you stay in the same location, so bedside items stay within reach.

Pros and cons
Pros Wall-aligning feature Trial period available Adjustable leg height Thousands of positive reviews on Trustpilot Cons Must pay $199 for in-home setup and old mattress removal Lacks advanced features
Features
  • Price: $1,995
  • Payment options: Discover, Mastercard, American Express, Visa, PayPal, Amazon Pay, Affirm
  • Trial period: 30 days
  • Warranty: 10 years
  • Dimensions: 37.5 inches wide, 79.5 inches long
  • Weight capacity: 750 pounds
Compatible mattresses

Casper offers seven twin XL mattresses that are compatible with its adjustable beds:

Additional information

This base offers standard features, like two custom settings and preset positions such as zero-gravity and snore reduction. Its four-zone massage feature targets the head, shoulders, back, and feet and could promote relaxation for those who enjoy it.

Similar to Saatva, this adjustable base offers under-bed lighting to help you see when you get up at night. Tempur-Pedic and Purple also offer under-bed lighting. This can help you prevent falls by illuminating part of your bedroom walkway, but if you’re concerned about your fall risk, take the NCOA Falls Free CheckUp and talk to your doctor.

Casper offers a 30-day trial period. Although shorter than the 101-night trial period that Puffy offers, a trial period is something that Saatva, Tempur-Pedic, Purple, and Reverie don’t offer at all. “A trial period allows you to test out the bed in your home to ensure it meets your comfort and health needs. This is especially useful since adjustable beds can be quite expensive,” said Nathan Kadlecek, DPT, a physical therapist and the owner of Kadalyst Wellness and Physical Therapy in Monterey, California “Companies may choose not to offer trials due to the logistical and cost implications of transporting and potentially having to take back large, heavy items.”

Casper charges $199 for in-home setup and old mattress removal, but it may be worth the price since adjustable bases are heavy to maneuver into a bedroom. Casper does offer frequent sales on its website that lower the cost of this adjustable base below $1,000. If you happen to catch a sale, it may help justify the cost of in-home setup services.

Customer service

You can reach Casper customer service via:

  • Phone (888-498-0003) available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., or Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET
  • Chat on the website available all week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET

The online chat feature is always with a live agent who answers quickly and courteously with relevant, thorough answers. Our Reviews Team had a positive experience interacting with Casper customer support.

Customer reviews

Casper has thousands of positive reviews on Trustpilot. As of the time this article was written, more than 5,000 customers gave Casper at least 4 out of 5 stars, praising the company for its customer support and quality products. Some negative reviews report a poor experience navigating the returns process, and Casper has not addressed these comments.

On BBB, Casper has an A+ rating, but it’s rated 1.1 out of 5 stars with an average of 31 reviews. Many customers report difficulty returning a purchase or a damaged product from poor shipping and handling.

Tempur-Pedic Ergo ProSmart Base

Best Smart Base
Why we chose it

The Tempur-Pedic Ergo ProSmart Base comes in twin long, which is the same dimension as a twin XL adjustable bed. It gets our “Best Smart Base” pick because of its use of advanced technology, like artificial intelligence (AI) and Bluetooth connectivity, to help you sleep.

Pros Mobile app and smart home (Amazon Alexa and Google Home) compatibility Free in-home setup Bluetooth speaker system Automatic snore response Lumbar support Under-bed lighting Adjustable leg height Cons High price No trial period Old mattress removal only available with the purchase of a new mattress

If you’re using a different brand, check with the manufacturer to ensure its compatibility with adjustable bases.

Additional information

Some high-tech features include the following:

  • Snore Response: Automatically elevates your head by 12 degrees to reduce snoring when detected.
  • Wind-Down program: Cycles through multiple base positions and gentle massage to help you fall asleep, then shuts off after 10–16 minutes, depending on your preset.
  • SoundsScape mode: Plays soothing sounds through the mattress to help you fall asleep using your own sounds or a preselected Tempur-Pedic playlist on Spotify.

You also get more common features, like under-bed lighting and two-zone massage at the head and feet with three different intensities. And if you need to customize your lower-back position, you can adjust the lumbar support section of the base to your liking. It raises that section of the base by 6 inches to fit your spine’s curves, which can feel more comfortable for some sleepers.

The lumbar support section raises from the center of the base to provide support when needed.

This smart base’s most distinguishing feature is its Tempur-Pedic Sleeptracker-AI app, available on the App Store and Google Play. The app provides detailed reports on your sleep patterns throughout the night and tracks sleep quality over time. It documents how often you wake up, your heart and breathing rate, snore frequency, and how long you spend in light sleep and deep sleep. And if your wireless remote is out of reach, you can open the app’s remote control features to adjust your bed’s position or turn on the under-bed lighting.

Customer service

You can reach Tempur-Pedic customer service by:

  • Phone (888-811-5053), available Monday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET.
  • Contact form on the website
  • Online chat on the website, with live agents available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET and a chat bot available 24/7. If you’d like to talk to a live agent using the chat feature, type “Talk to Live Agent,” and it will give you the option to connect with a real person.

Customer reviews

Tempur-Pedic is BBB-accredited with an A+ rating but had 1.03 out of 5 stars from an average of 149 reviews when we wrote this review. It also had a low rating on Trustpilot, with 1.2 out of 5 stars and an average of 114 reviews.

Many reviews across both sites report a poor experience with customer service. Various customers mentioned meeting opposition from support agents when trying to make a warranty claim. Before purchasing from Tempur-Pedic, make sure you read the warranty and feel comfortable with the terms. Also, be sure to register your product after your purchase, just in case you have to file a claim.

Best Twin XL Adjustable Bed for Pain Relief

Reverie Adjustable Power Base R450HT

Best for Pain Relief
Why we chose it

If you’re looking for an adjustable base to help relieve pain, make sure you consult a health care professional first. Ask your doctor for a referral to physical therapy for a full assessment, so you can understand the cause of your pain.

“While many people find relief from back pain by adjusting their sleep position, others may not see a difference or may even find some positions uncomfortable,” Kadlecek said.

A therapist may also suggest other solutions, like using a pillow to support different sleep positions, before you invest in a new adjustable base. Although new sleeping accommodations may help, evidence shows that physical activity is more beneficial in treating chronic pain, especially for the low back. [2] NCOA Adviser Adjustable Beds Survey. 1,000 respondents. Conducted using Pollfish. Launched June 2023.  Physical therapists can ease you into activities that relieve pain and help you sleep better.

Pros Bluetooth connectivity to a mobile app Pillow tilt feature for extra head and neck support Massage feature with 10 intensities Free in-home setup and delivery Adjustable leg height Cons No trial period Delivery takes up to three weeks

It’s important to note that it’s difficult to reach out to Reverie, which is an issue that some negative reviews report. When our Reviews Team reached out, we were on hold for 7 minutes before the line prompted us to leave a voicemail for a call back in one to two business days.

Customer reviews

Reverie has a D- rating on BBB and is not accredited. At the time we wrote this article, it had 1.21 out of 5 stars based on an average of 34 reviews. Most customers report difficulty contacting customer support about service and warranty issues.

It doesn’t have a presence on Trustpilot, but it does have about 57,000 followers on Facebook. The brand actively responds to comments, complaints, and requests by direct messaging customers.

What to consider before purchasing a twin adjustable bed

If you’re looking for a twin adjustable bed, here are a few points to consider before your purchase:

How we chose the best adjustable beds

Based on our expert consultations and research, we determined the following factors to be important for our readers when shopping for an adjustable bed:

We had all of our selections medically reviewed by an expert in the field to ensure each brand and model is appropriate for NCOA readers’ needs. To see how we tested and reviewed adjustable beds, see our review methodology to learn more.

Bottom line

Twin adjustable bases are a good option if you are an independent sleeper who wants to customize your sleeping position. It’s also a good option if you’d like to maximize space in your bedroom or if a full or queen-size adjustable base is outside your budget.

In our review, twin adjustable bases cost between $1,199 and $2,399. Adjustable beds with basic features, like head and foot adjustability and massage, sit at the lower end of the range. Smart beds, like the Tempur-Pedic Ergo ProSmart Base, are at the higher end of the range.

Many brands have no trial period, which means sales are final. It could be a costly mistake if your purchase doesn’t work for you. Be sure to speak with a health care professional, like a physical therapist or an occupational therapist, before investing in an adjustable base or mattress to address pain. They can help you determine the root cause of your pain and teach you how to best address it. They can even let you know which adjustable bed features may or may not be beneficial, which can save you money.

Frequently asked questions

Unfortunately, Medicare does not cover adjustable beds because they’re not considered necessary durable medical equipment (DME). 3 If you need an adjustable bed covered by insurance, ask your doctor if you qualify for a hospital bed, which may be covered through Medicare Part B. 4 5

You can use any mattress that is compatible with an adjustable base. Usually, these are foam mattresses and hybrid mattresses. Innerspring mattresses are rarely compatible with adjustable beds, so check with your manufacturer before using this type of mattress.

Check out our list of the best mattresses to learn more.

If you see two twin mattresses together, they’re likely on top of a split king adjustable base rather than two separate twin adjustable bases. A split king adjustable base is the size of a king bed, but with two independently adjustable sides that are the size of a twin XL.

In our review of the best twin adjustable beds, they cost between $1,199 and $2,399. Puffy Adjustable Base is our pick with the lowest price, while Tempur-Pedic Ergo ProSmart Base is the more costly option.

Twin adjustable beds may last several years, but it depends on many factors, like how much wear and tear it experiences. Adjustable beds come with warranties of varying lengths, and some brands, like Purple, allow you to purchase extra protection through partners like Extend. Price varies by product.

We picked Saatva Adjustable Base as the “Best Overall” because of its long 25-year warranty and many advanced features. It’s competitively priced at $1,249 for the twin and $1,299 for the twin XL.

While adjustable beds offer numerous benefits, they also have some potential disadvantages. They can be expensive, with higher-end models costing significantly more than standard bed frames. The mechanical parts can fail over time, leading to potential repair costs if they’re not under warranty. Additionally, not all mattresses are suitable for adjustable beds, and the cost of a new mattress can add to the overall cost of a new bed considerably.

Adjustable beds can be beneficial for a variety of sleepers, including side sleepers. This is because adjustable beds can be modified by the user as needed to suit their specific body shape and align the spine properly, reducing pressure points. But before making any significant changes to your sleep environment, you might want to consult with your doctor or a sleep specialist to make sure an adjustable bed is right for you.
