Quality sleep is important for everyone’s physical and mental health and is vital for healthy aging. Sleep disorders like insomnia or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can make getting a full night’s rest difficult. According to a recent meta-analysis in the journal Sleep Science, snoring is a common symptom of OSA and can be disruptive. [1]Chiang JK, et al. Correlation Between Snoring Sounds and Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Adults: a Meta-regression Analysis. Sleep Science. 2022. Found on the internet at https://sleepscience.org.br/details/3369/en-US/correlation-between-snoring-sounds-and-obstructive-sleep-apnea-in-adults–a-meta-regression-analysis That’s where adjustable beds can help.

In our Reviews Team’s survey of 1,000 adjustable bed users, 41% of respondents either snore or care for someone who snores. [2]NCOA Adviser Adjustable Beds Survey. 1,000 respondents. Conducted using Pollfish. Launched June 2023 Adjustable beds allow you to elevate your head and feet and find a comfortable resting position, which may help you snore less and sleep better.

Craftmatic is an adjustable bed brand with three different models. Our Reviews Team researched Craftmatic and found issues with the quality of customer service and business practices regarding the price of the beds. Learn why we don’t recommend Craftmatic and what you should consider if you decide to purchase.

Model I features

The Craftmatic Model I is available in multiple sizes: twin, full, queen, split queen, king, and split king. The bed, which is made of an adjustable frame and mattress, holds up to 450 pounds, so heavier people who share a bed with a partner may not find this a suitable option. The company advertises that the beds have a “whisper quiet” motor for smooth and silent transitions between positions.

The Model I adjustable bed comes with a mattress and offers a choice of designs. The mattress options are:

On a phone call with a Craftmatic sales representative, our Reviews Team confirmed that the beds come with two wireless remote controls. The controls have a memory feature you can use to set your preferred bed positions.

Craftmatic adjustable beds lack some of the advanced features of competitors like Tempur-Pedic adjustable beds. The Model I does not have snore detection technology, which can benefit sleepers by gently raising the head of the bed when it senses the person is snoring. It also doesn’t have adjustable firmness or temperature control.

The Model I ships for free, and Craftmatic offers nationwide delivery and set-up services in the United States. A sales representative told a member of our Reviews Team that Craftmatic beds are delivered within two weeks, but several customers reported to the BBB that it took weeks longer for their beds to show up.

You can also opt to have the delivery service team remove your old bed frame and mattress or move it to another room. Tell the sales representative what you want done with your old bed during your purchase.

Model I price

Craftmatic isn’t transparent about prices, and our Reviews Team encountered several confusing and misleading sales tactics when they called customer service. Our Reviews Team was quoted a different price for the queen-size Model I each time we called, and representatives pushed us to buy larger, more expensive models.

On its website, the company advertises that many people qualify for a 50% discount without ever stating the full price of the beds. Craftmatic reportedly offers a discount to active military service and AARP members, but the only way to get a quote is to talk to a sales representative over the phone.

During one call, a sales representative quoted our reviewer $3,817 for a queen-size Model I. The sales representative said that if the Model I wasn’t available, the reviewer could upgrade to the Legacy Queen model at no additional cost. They did not explain why the Model I may not be available.

Another one of our reviewers called and requested the price for a Model I, but the sales representative would not provide the price and instead pushed them to purchase the queen-size Legacy model for $4,059.95.

During an additional customer service call, the representative said our reviewer was eligible for the Craftmatic 50th anniversary 50% discount and offered a price of $3,070 for the Model I. When our reviewer said they weren’t ready to purchase, the sales representative said the discount would no longer apply if they didn’t buy that day.

Craftmatic payment options

You must call the company directly and talk to a sales representative to make a purchase.

Craftmatic accepts American Express, MasterCard, VISA, and Discover. On their homepage, Craftmatic promotes a pay-over-time option with a Wells Fargo Home Furnishings card. The interest rate on this card is 28.99% unless you pay back the amount in full within the promotional period, but they do not state how long the promotional period lasts. We do not recommend signing up for a new credit card just to make a Craftmatic purchase.

Craftmatic warranty and returns

Craftmatic offers a 25-year limited warranty for the Model I adjustable base and mattress. They also offer a limited lifetime warranty for parts, such as the motors, gears, controls, and the electrical system.

If you’re unhappy with your Craftmatic purchase, you can return the adjustable bed within the 30-day trial period, but you must cover the cost of the return.

A member of our Reviews Team reached out to Craftmatic through the contact form and by email, but received no response. We got in touch with a few representatives over the phone to ask about pricing and delivery options, but each representative provided different information about products and services.

Craftmatic reviews

Craftmatic gets 1.0 out of 5 stars from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) from an average of 29 customer reviews at the time this article was written. On July 7, 2023, Craftmatic’s accreditation with the BBB was suspended.

The reviews on BBB were overwhelmingly negative, citing late delivery, long wait times to talk with customer service representatives, poor customer service, trouble canceling orders, and deceptive, high-pressure sales tactics.

Another customer reported to our Reviews Team that when his Craftmatic adjustable bed arrived, the delivery person said he had no orders to remove the old mattress.

“I tried calling Craftmatic about the haul away issue but always hit voicemail and never got a return call. So I texted and later called the salesman. Again, no reply. I cannot recommend Craftmatic.”

MICHAEL H., VERIFIED ADJUSTABLE BED USER

“Beyond terrible. We ended up canceling the order after not receiving it and are still fighting for our credit of $3,397. They do not answer the phones, and when they do, they transfer to someone else or hang up. I would not have left a single star, but that was the minimum service option.”

VANESSA B., VERIFIED CUSTOMER (BBB.ORG)

“Bought a bed over the phone at full price. They did not deliver and spent over three weeks telling us they didn’t know where the bed was. We finally asked for our money back, but it’s been two months.”

WILLIAM K., VERIFIED CUSTOMER (BBB.ORG)

Bottom line

Craftmatic offers a small selection of adjustable bed models and mattresses, but we cannot recommend this brand. The website is difficult to navigate, and the company’s sales tactics are deceptive. Craftmatic is not transparent about the price of their adjustable beds, and sales representatives put on high-pressure sales tactics. Many BBB reviews cite difficulty with the customer service and delivery of their beds.
