Layla Mattress Review 2024 | Expert Tried & Tested
Key Takeaways
- The Layla is a 100% memory foam mattress that allows sleepers to choose from a soft or firm side.
- The cost of a Layla ranges from $749–$1,249, depending on the size.
- Sleepers may enjoy the breathability of the copper-infused memory foam and the pressure relief the mattress offers for people with back, hip, or shoulder pain.
Some mattresses are soft and some are firm, but a certain type of mattress can be both. One such bed is the dual-sided Layla Memory Foam Mattress, which is designed to be flippable. A dual-sided mattress like the Layla opens up a lot of possibilities. For example, you could switch from the soft side to the firm side if you’re having back pain and need more support for your lower back. In most cases, though, the typical Layla mattress owner will pick the side that gives them the most overall comfort and stick with it.
In our Layla mattress review, we’ll dive into the details and help you decide whether it’s among today’s best mattresses—and the right mattress for you. As with all our mattress reviews, we use notes and testing scores from sleep experts who tried the Layla to give you an idea of what it offers.
Our Layla mattress experience
Our expert take
The mattress has four primary layers wrapped in a polyester-blend cover that’s thick, cozy, and soft to the touch. The 3-inch top layer of the soft side is made with copper-infused memory foam. This layer offers the most sinkage out of the two sides and gives a nice level of contouring. Next is the polyfoam transition layer that provides some firmness and prevents the mattress from dipping. The base layer is actually the top of the firm side. This 1-inch layer is made with the same copper-infused memory foam as the top layer of the soft side. While it doesn’t offer as much contouring as the soft side, it’s a good option for lighter- and average-weight stomach sleepers looking for more support.
The copper-infused memory foam included in the Layla is designed to help dissipate body heat and sleep cooler than other memory foam materials. Another benefit of the copper-infused foam is that copper is naturally antimicrobial, which can help prevent bacteria and mold from building up over time.
When we lay down on the Layla, we noticed it did feel cool, which may make it an appealing option for couples and people who tend to sleep hot.
We tried sleeping in various positions on the Layla and discovered it works great for back, side, and stomach sleepers in a variety of weight categories. The only type of sleeper we hesitate to recommend it to would be higher-weight stomach sleepers, as they’re likely to experience too much sinkage in the hip area.
The Layla mattress offers excellent motion isolation. This means you’re unlikely to feel motion across the bed when a partner or pet moves around, which makes it a good option for couples or people who share a bed with their kids or pets.
As for pressure relief, we believe the Layla would be a good option for people dealing with back, shoulder, and hip pain. When our tester lay down on both sides, they noticed a considerable amount of pressure relief in those areas. We believe the firm side would be good for those with back pain, and the soft side would be good for those with hip and shoulder pain.
One of the areas we felt the Layla could do better in is edge support. When our tester sat on the edge of both the soft and the firm sides, they noticed a good amount of dipping. This may be uncomfortable for couples who like to use the full surface area of the bed, or for people with mobility issues who use the edge of the bed to lift themselves up to a standing position.
Our recommendation
Who may love it
- Combination sleepers will find it responds well to movement
- Hot sleepers may find the copper-infused memory foam promotes breathability
- Budget shoppers looking for a blend of quality and affordability
Who may want to avoid it
- People who like to spread out on the bed or need edge support for mobility purposes
- Higher-weight sleepers who need sturdier support
Our expert opinion on the Layla Memory Foam Mattress
Your experience with the Layla mattress comes down to choosing the correct side for your sleeping position, body type, and firmness preference. Most back and side sleepers of average weight or lighter should find the most comfort on the soft side. Higher-weight back, side, and stomach sleepers should sleep on the firm side to get the support they need.
Our tester on the Layla mattress:
“I give the Layla Memory Foam Mattress five out of five for pressure relief for back sleepers and side sleepers. ”
The Layla mattress is priced more affordably than many comparable mattresses. Although Layla’s 120-night sleep trial is only a bit better than the industry standard, the lifetime warranty puts it among the top tier of mattress companies.

Layla Memory Foam Mattress compared to other Layla mattresses
If you’re looking for a Layla mattress with better edge support and a more responsive feel, we recommend the Layla Hybrid. The Layla Hybrid is made with pressure-relieving memory foam plus a layer of innerspring coils that offer improved responsiveness and edge support.
The Layla Hybrid is similar to the Layla in that it’s flippable and uses cooling, copper-infused memory foam. But the bounce provided by the coils makes it a better option for combination sleepers and people who need a higher level of edge support.
Keep in mind that a queen-size Layla Hybrid costs $600 more than the memory foam model.
Bottom line
Overall, we think the Layla is a great option for memory foam lovers who enjoy the classic level of sinkage and contouring you get from all-foam mattresses. The ability to switch between soft and firm sides gives sleepers the choice between a more supportive or cozy feel. The copper-infused memory foam is a huge plus here, as it makes the mattress more breathable and can help protect against the buildup of bacteria and mold. While the memory foam model doesn’t provide a high level of edge support, shoppers can choose the hybrid option for more edge support and responsiveness.
