Healthy Steps in Motion (HSIM) is an evidence-based program designed to help older adults manage their risk of falls. HSIM focuses on the physical aspects of fall risk. In this eight-session program, participants explore their personal physical fall risks through multiple assessments, set goals for improvement, learn about exercise safety and methods, and develop a personalized plan to maintain the gains they make in the eight sessions.
Each HSIM session includes an educational focus and an exercise focus. The program is designed to safely take individuals who have never exercised to completing 45 minutes of exercise in the eighth session.
All HSIM exercises have multiple levels and can be performed seated or standing. Workshop leaders inform, guide, and coach participants as they safely build the physical capacity necessary to reduce their risk of falls.
