Counting Income & Resources for Extra Help

What counts as income and assets when determining eligibility for the Medicare Part D Low-Income Subsidy/Extra Help?

This Part D Extra Help cheat sheet is designed to help benefits counselors understand which income and resources always, never, or sometimes count when helping low-income Medicare beneficiaries apply for the Part D Low Income Subsidy (LIS).

The cheat sheet includes links to additional information in the Social Security Program Operations Manual, which sets the parameters for this eligibility.

To get the current income eligibility thresholds for LIS/Extra Help, consult our eligibility chart.
