Recent Legislative Developments in the Older Americans Act

The bipartisan, bicameral agreement on OAA reauthorization, the Supporting Older Americans Act, was adopted by Unanimous Consent in the Senate on March 3, 2020, approved by the House on March 11, and signed into law on March 25.

These are the measures from each chamber's leaders that were the basis of the Supporting Older Americans Act. Many of the National Council on Aging's (NCOA) priorities were included in the final 2020 legislation on issues ranging from healthy aging, workforce support, and research and innovation. The statute will need to be renewed again in 2024.
