Ninfa Peña-Purcell, PhD, was appointed in 2021 to serve a seven-year term as a board member on the Texas Diabetes Council. She is a member of the Society for Public Health Education Board of Trustees, and her past professional service includes serving as board member for the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing. She is the author of numerous health programs, including the nationally recognized diabetes education programs Si, Yo Puedo Controlar Mi Diabetes! (Si, Yo Puedo), and Wisdom, Power, Control tailored toward Hispanic and African American audiences, respectively. She earned a PhD in Health Studies from Texas Women's University and a master's degree in kinesiology from the University of Texas at El Paso. Her graduate degree focused on worksite health promotions.
