David Markiewicz

David Markiewicz held numerous positions during his 40-year career with the American Heart Association before retiring as Executive Vice President for the AHA, Greater Southeast Affiliate. In this final role, he led a six-state and Puerto Rico staff of 320 professionals and thousands of local volunteers to advance the mission of the association. He was responsible for all fundraising, program implementation, advocacy initiatives, hospital quality improvement and the management of annual operating budgets. He also served on the national senior staff leadership team as a passionate contributing member. 

Markiewicz recognizes the importance of local volunteer voices and efforts to effectuate sustainable change and the power of an internationally recognized organization to provide science-based solutions to local issues. He believes in building a sense of shared purpose with volunteers, staff and key stakeholders to ensure all perspectives are considered when developing and implementing initiatives. 

Markiewicz is particularly proud of his success in identifying, attracting, and retaining staff talent and creating an environment for them to excel as individuals within a team construct. 

Markiewicz lives in Carrboro, North Carolina with his wife, Jackie. He holds a BS degree in Speech Communication, Public Address from Radford University in Virginia.
